Transmissions

The precious and unsurpassable teachings taught by the Buddha of our times, Buddha Shakyamuni, have continued from the moment the Buddha first turned the wheel of dharma until today through the very vital and important tradition of transmissions.

Following the command of Kyabje Mindrolling Trichen Rinpoche, Mindrolling Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche established and guides the Vajra Vidyadhara Project, which is tasked with ensuring that the important tradition of transmissions continues.

The Mindrolling Monastery has through these decades held many profoundly precious transmissions, empowerments and teachings from both – Kama and Terma streams of Dharma. Some of the extensive transmissions bestowed at Mindrolling are:

  • The entire Rinchen Terzod empowerments were bestowed by Kyabje Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in 1978-79.
  • The entire lung (oral transmissions) of the Rinchen Terzod were bestowed by Kyabje Dodrub Rinpoche in 1978- 79.
  • The oral transmission of the entire Lochen Songbum (the collected works of Lochen Dharmashri) were bestowed by Gonjo Chogtrul Rigzin Pema Rinpoche.
  • The entire Kama empowerments were bestowed by Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche in 1997.
  • The oral transmission of the entire collection of Terchen Kabum (the collected works of Chögyal Terdag Lingpa) were bestowed by Minling Lopön Tenzin Nyima.
  • Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche bestowed the Thugje Chenpo Desheg Kündü empowerment and oral transmission including the Lhachen Sogwang in 2001.
  • Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche bestowed the entire Minling Chokhor and ‘dus pa mdo (Sutra Which Gathers All Intentions) empowerments and oral transmissions in 2007.
  • Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche bestowed the entire Rinchen Terzod in 2008-09.
  • His Eminence Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche bestowed the entire oral transmission of Rinchen Terzod in 2008-09
  • Kyabje Tsetrul Rinpoche bestowed Künzang Gongpa Zangthal at Mindrolling Lotus Garden in the United States in the autumn of 2010.

In receiving the blessings of the empowerment, practitioners gain the opportunity to practice the teachings and also to earn merit for themselves for the benefit of all sentient beings.

The Rinchen Terdzöd (the Precious Treasury of Terma) is one of the most treasured and important set of transmissions of the Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism. The Rinchen Terdzöd is a compilation of the treasure teachings of Guru Rinpoche, Vimalamitra, Vairotsana, and other great masters, which were concealed during their own time and later discovered by eminent tertöns, or treasure-revealers, between the 11th and 19th centuries. In an effort to preserve these precious terma treasures, the great masters Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thaye, Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and Chokgyur Lingpa collected them into 64 volumes called Rinchen Terdzöd, or the Precious Treasury of Terma.

Many teachers and students practicing and teaching the dharma today received the empowerments during this bestowal of these precious transmissions.
